Socket Arms

Socket Arm Assembly

Most RAM® socket arms consist of a stainless steel bolt, two arm halves, a single spring offset to one side, a nylon washer, a stainless steel washer, and a greased threaded knob. The washers in this assembly are crucial to protect the threads in the knob from any gradual stripping.

Spring Placement

Some short socket arms do not allow for a spring to be offset to the side. For lighter duty B-Size short arms and spring is not necessary, while for heavy duty socket arms such as C-Size and D-Size, the spring is routed through the center of the bolt.

Bolt Lengths

Different lengths of socket arms may require different lengths of bolts. For example B-Size short arms and medium arms take the same length bolt, but the long arm requires a longer bolt. It is because of this the Add-A-Ball™ Adapter is not compatible with the long socket arm, as the long arm requires additional bolt threads.

Swivel Socket Arms

Swivel Socket Arms allow additional adjustability with two independent knobs, with an octagon button adapter in the center that can convert a B-Size socket to a C-size socket.

Flex Arms

By utilizing the 1/2" rigid aluminum rod system, these flex arms provide a reliable extension between ball joints.

PVC Pipe Arms

Achieve a lighter duty and cost effective method of extending your arm system with PVC pipe adapters. Multiple pipe lengths are available to create any custom length.

NPT Socket Arms

B-Size socket arms are available with a 1/4" NPT thread that can connect to any NPT or NPSM pipe or flex arm. The C Size version supports a 1/2" NPT thread, and the D Size supports 1" NPT. RAM® offers a wide range of NPT pipes and other components to create any custom configuration.

Retention Knobs

Socket arms with retention knobs are commonly used in aviation with an extended bolt that allows the knob to be easier to access while supporting a tablet. In addition, these arms integrate an acorn nut through the center of the knob that prevents the knob from being loosened to a point of accidentally disassembling the socket arm entirely.
