QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Is this a good choice for oddly shaped or oblong rails?

No, this base will work best on a perfectly cylindrical rail.

  • Is this SKu available with a larger ball?

No,the small torque rail base is only available with the 1" diameter (B size) ball a a connection point.

  • Is the rubber strip necessary or the inserts are sufficient on a 0.47" rail. The rail is made from alluminum.

The rubber strip for the RAM-B-408-37-62U is not required during application although it is provided for extra support/grip.

  • When and where should I use the short rubber strip?

You can either wrap the rubber strip that comes with the RAM-B-408-37-62U around the bar or railing you're using as a mounting point or cut the strip in half and place it inside the small torque rail base to prevent the inserts or the powder coated metal from touching the mounting surface.

  • Can you put two of these together so as to have a ball on both sides of the clamp?

No, the portion of the RAM-B-408-37-62U with the ball has round openings for screw heads while the lower portion has nut pockets to secure those screws in place. It's possible to achieve that with different hardware but that hardware is not available through RAM.

  • What do the numbers on the inserts refer to? 32, 40, 47, 55?

These inserts refer to the diameter sizes that are best suited for the size rail that the base will be mounted against. "32" is best for .32" diameter, "40" is best for .4", "47" is for ".47", and "55" is for .55" diameters.

Reading part numbers

The letter after RAM tells you the ball size: RAM-B-166 uses a 1" B ball, while RAM-D-201 uses a 2.25" D ball. C size parts are the exception and carry no letter, so RAM-201U is a C size arm.
