Can the rod be cut to shorten?
Yes, the aluminum rod that's included as part of RAM-316-LEG-NF-18U can be cut shorter if you find 18" is too long for your application.

How do you bend this?
The flex rod typically requires 3 point contact to reposition. Most people either bend the rod over their knee or the edge of something stable like the edge of a table.
