Yes, this ball will be compatible with any standard camera tripod.
How deep is the female socket? I need to make sure I order the correct length bolt for my application.

It has a .75" depth.

It's a 1" ball on top of a Hex post. Overall length is 1.51", Hex Width is 0.437" and from the bottom of the ball to the end of the Hex Post is 0.5"

Reading part numbers

The letter after RAM tells you the ball size: RAM-B-166 uses a 1" B ball, while RAM-D-201 uses a 2.25" D ball. C size parts are the exception and carry no letter, so RAM-201U is a C size arm.
