Overview
The RAM® X-Grip® Phone Mount with ATV/Side By Side Rail Base (RAM-B-231-2-UN7U) comes with everything needed to mount a phone or small electronic device to rails ranging in diameter from 0.5" - 3.15". This kit consists of a steel strap clamp base, stainless steel u-bolt base, medium-length double socket arm, and universal spring-loaded RAM® X-Grip® cradle for cell phones. The spring-loaded RAM® X-Grip® phone holder allows for a perfect custom fit across phone models and small electronic devices 1.87" to 3.25" in width through expansion and contraction of the arms. The holder features four grip knobs that attach to the arms for a secure hold; also included is a rubber device tether recommended for outdoor & high vibration applications. To ensure fit within the RAM® X-Grip®, it is important to verify the dimensions of the handheld device while within its case/sleeve/skin. The patented rubber ball and socket system with adjustment points at both ends of the socket arm allows adjustment to the optimum viewing position.

I noticed my phone can be rotated back and forth about 15 degrees when it is in the X-Grip. Is that normal?
That type of movement is totally normal for the X-Grip. When being used for less rugged applications the small amount of movement allowed is not an issue, but sometimes when traveling at higher speeds or in bumpy environments it can be. If that is causing problems in your application, it is best to use the safety tether which will prevent that type of movement by creating tension between the phone and backplate.
