Overview
The RAM-HOL-TABL12U consists of a spring loaded backplate, custom support cups and locking mechanism for the iPad mini WITH skin, sleeve or case. This spring loaded design makes it easy to load and unload your iPad mini, along with keeping it secure while on the go. Cup ends are designed to optimize the functionality of your tablet, allowing access to audio jacks, usb, power, and other ports, your iPad mini can be used just as it was intended. Quickly lock the cradle, keeping your iPad mini secure and safe from theft. Included is a set of four nuts and bolts to connect the cradle to any RAM components or mounts that contain the universal AMPs hole pattern. The included back plate is interchangeable with various size support cups, making it compatible with numerous tablet models. New detachable support cups are the only components needed for purchase, attach to the back plate for support of your new tablet.

Exactly how does the lock work? Would it stop a special needs student from removing the iPad?
This locks with a key and you need the key to unlock so you can get the tablet in and out.

Can this mount allow the tablet to be easily switched from portrait to landscape?
Yes, you would just need to loosen the double socket arm that attaches to that cradle, rotate back and forth from portrait to landscape, and then re-tighten the double socket arm.
