How do these arms let you close the laptop?
The upper portion of the Flat Clamping Arms are very thin, allowing you to close the laptop completely without having to open the laptop tray as you do with the Angled Retaining Arms.

The dimensions for the flat clamping arms are 3 3/8" height, 1 1/2" width, depth at thickest point is 5/8"
