Durable, Cost-Effective Materials

RAM® utilizes the most efficient materials in each product design that ensures the most reliability while remaining cost effective. Each intended environment is taken into consideration, along with the safety and comfort of the user. Materials vary between powder-coated steel, marine-grade aluminum and high strength composites throughout all RAM® mounting systems.

Aluminum vs High Strength Composite

Many RAM® Mounts are available in alternate materials between marine-grade aluminum and high-strength composite. Both versions are backed by a lifetime warranty and generally support the same weight capacity, but there are some unique differences that may make one version preferred over another. Marine-grade aluminum has a slightly higher cost but is better suited for rough environments and higher shock & vibration profiles, while the high-strength composite version is lower cost and is recommended for lighter duty applications. While both versions are corrosion resistant, the aluminum version has a powdered coated paint that could chip away over time in some environments. High-strength composite can be better suited for high corrosion and saltwater environments, as the components are not painted.

Chrome-Plated Components

RAM® offers a select range of Marine-grade aluminum components that have a chrome-plated finish instead of the traditional black powder-coat. These chrome components have the same structural integrity as any other RAM® aluminum components. Chrome components have a higher price point but are often preferred for their aesthetic look. The most common application for chrome mounts are motorcycles where the mount can match chrome handlebars.
