Axon turned to RAM® Mounts for a secure, field-ready mounting solution that simplified installation, improved stability, and supported rapid rollout of the Axon Outpost ALPR camera system across a variety of diverse environments.
The Challenge
Axon needed a mounting solution that could keep pace with the Outpost ALPR camera’s rapid development timeline while performing reliably across unpredictable, high-demand law enforcement environments. Early field tests revealed stability issues, varied installation needs, and evolving hardware requirements that required fast, flexible support:
- Maintaining reliable camera stability—some early mounts drooped under load
- Supporting multiple installation scenarios (poles, trailers, vehicles, magnets, trees)
- Ensuring mounts were easy to deploy by varied installation teams
- Protecting equipment in high-risk or exposed environments
- Scaling from small intermittent orders to hundred+ unit bulk order
The Solution
RAM® Mounts provided rapid support as Axon moved through development phases, quickly addressing issues and supplying updated hardware for testing. Ultimately, the RAM® Mounts ecosystem of ball mounts and a variety of mounting bases became the perfect solution, providing the flexibility Axon needed to deploy the ALPR camera system in a multitude of scenarios, including:
- Poles (most common), using a mix of Tough-Claw™ mounts and hose clamp bases
- Speed capture trailers, using a mix of magnetic and drill-down bases
- Police vehicles, using Tough-Claw™ mounts to clamp to grill guards
- Improvised locations such as digital speed limit signs, using magnetic bases and drill-down kits
- Improvised locations such as trees, using hose clamp bases.
