RAM® Mounts helped Corona Fire Department standardize mobile technology across their fleet to better support dispatch, patient care, and connected medical equipment where every second matters.
The Challenge
In 2019, Corona Fire Department began looking for a modern alternative to Panasonic Toughbooks, which had become expensive and difficult to maintain. Moving to a modern tablet-based approach required a solution that could withstand daily use in fire and medic rigs while keeping devices charged, connected, and immediately accessible during emergencies.
Corona Fire Department needed a solution that could:
- Secure and protect tablets in demanding fire and EMS environments
- Allow crews to quickly dock and remove devices
- Maintain reliable charging and connectivity
- Adapt to device upgrades and various vehicle configurations
- Create a consistent setup that could be replicated across the fleet
After lower-cost mounting solutions failed to provide the required durability, the Corona Fire Department needed a more reliable system without the cost, bulk, and service complexity of other premium solutions.
The Solution
Corona Fire Department began its tablet transition with Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 devices protected by IntelliSkin® and secured in GDS® Docks, primarily supporting patient care and medical calls. Crews could quickly dock or remove tablets while maintaining reliable charging, connectivity, and protection.
As the department moved through its three-to-four-year device replacement cycle, the GDS® Ecosystem™ supported upgrades to Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S8 tablets and eventually iPad Pro devices throughout the front and rear cabs.
Newer IntelliSkin® designs with external USB-C access further expanded these workflows, allowing crews to connect portable ultrasound equipment directly to tablets. Using the Butterfly application, medical personnel can assess cardiac activity and potential internal bleeding during emergency response.
RAM®’s modular design also simplified fleet deployment. Once the department established an installation blueprint, new rigs could be equipped in approximately 20 minutes using a process that has also served as a reference for neighboring fire departments.
“We don’t have to worry about whether the tablet is going to be usable. They know exactly what to do in high-stress situations because having access to these devices is so easy and reliable. It’s a game changer for us.”
The Results
Today, Corona Fire Department has standardized RAM® mounting solutions across approximately 20 rigs. Front-cab tablets support dispatch, Patient Care Reporting, and other critical applications, while rear-cab devices support medical response and connected patient-care technology.
With tablets kept secure, connected, charged, and in a consistent location, crews can focus on the emergency instead of whether their technology will be ready, even as the department’s devices and workflows evolve.
RAM® Mounts helped the Corona Fire Department by:
Standardizing reliable tablet mounting solutions across their fleet
Keeping critical devices secure, charged, and easily accessible
Supporting device upgrades from Samsung tablets to iPad Pro
Expanding medical workflows with USB-C-connected ultrasound equipment
Creating a repeatable installation blueprint for new apparatuses
